How long does a typical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy session last?

At Urban Wellness Group, a typical Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) session lasts between 60 to 90 minutes. During your session, you will relax comfortably inside our state-of-the-art hyperbaric chamber while breathing pure oxygen at increased atmospheric pressure. This process significantly boosts the amount of oxygen your body’s tissues receive, supporting healing and overall wellness.

The exact length and number of HBOT sessions are personalized based on your specific medical needs and the treatment plan developed by our experienced healthcare providers. While most patients can expect each session to last about one to one and a half hours, your recommended protocol may vary depending on your unique health goals and conditions. For optimal results, our team often suggests a series of sessions, which we will discuss with you during your consultation.

What should I wear to a Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy session?

At Urban Wellness Group, your safety and comfort during Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) are our top priorities. As you get ready for your HBOT session, please follow these guidelines to ensure a safe and relaxing experience:

Clothing: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothing made from 100% cotton. Synthetic fabrics and clothing with metal parts—such as zippers, snaps, or underwire bras—should be avoided because they can create static electricity or pose a safety risk in our pressurized, oxygen-rich environment.

Jewelry & Accessories: Please remove all jewelry, watches, hairpins, and other accessories before entering the chamber.

Personal Care Products: Avoid using lotions, perfumes, hair sprays, deodorants, or other personal care products before your session, as these may contain flammable ingredients.

Provided Attire: For your safety, Urban Wellness Group will provide a hospital gown or scrubs for you to wear during your session. Cotton-based socks may be worn if permitted.

By following these guidelines, you help us maintain the highest standards of safety and care. We look forward to supporting your wellness journey with HBOT!

Will I feel any discomfort during the HBOT session?

Your comfort and safety are our top priorities during every Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) session. Most of our patients experience minimal discomfort throughout the treatment. As the pressure inside the chamber increases, you may feel a sensation of fullness or mild pressure in your ears—similar to what you might notice during an airplane’s takeoff or landing. This is a normal part of adjusting to the increased atmospheric pressure. Simple actions like swallowing, yawning, or gently pinching your nose and blowing can help equalize this ear pressure.

Aside from this brief ear pressure, most clients find the experience relaxing. You’ll be able to lie down or recline comfortably inside the chamber. Feel free to unwind: you can watch TV, listen to music, or even take a nap during your session. Our attentive staff will monitor you at all times to ensure your safety and comfort. If you ever feel anxious or notice anything unusual, you can easily communicate with our team right away.

Some individuals may notice mild sinus discomfort or a temporary feeling of warmth as the pressure changes, but these symptoms typically pass quickly. Serious side effects are rare, and most people tolerate HBOT very well. If you have specific concerns—such as a cold, congestion, or a history of ear issues—please let your healthcare provider know before starting therapy. We’re here to answer any questions and ensure your HBOT experience is as smooth and beneficial as possible.

Can I relax or nap during the HBOT session?

We often hear from patients who wonder if it’s possible to relax—or even take a nap—during their hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) sessions. The good news is that most people find these sessions to be very comfortable and ideal for relaxation.

During your HBOT session, you’ll be resting in a quiet, comfortable chamber—either solo or with others, depending on the specific chamber we use for your treatment. Many of our patients choose to listen to music, read, or simply close their eyes and rest. In fact, it’s quite common for people to drift off and nap, as the pressurization process is generally gentle and pain-free. Sessions typically last between 60 to 90 minutes.
